Words seem to define us – winner, loser, big, small, accepted, rejected, sinner, saint, but because Jesus is the First Word and He is the FINAL Word, Alpha and Omega, Beginning and End; it doesn’t matter what your current word is, it doesn’t have to define you if you surrender to Jesus. It’s Not the “What”, it’s the “THAT”
I got a text from a friend today. It’s not unusual for us to text each other with a thought or a question as we study the word, or think through the issues we face. The question today was, “Joshua 6 – Jericho, shouts and the walls came down. Scripture just says they shouted. Shouted … Continue reading
Later – John 13:36
There’s a word I don’t like, “Later” – Read John 13:36 – I/We usually want what we want, NOW. That’s why we have microwaves. We’d rather have it NOW, even if it is rubbery, and less flavorful, we want it NOW, not later. But that brings up some questions 1.Who is Saying – Later? If … Continue reading
Redemption – A Sermon
This is the manuscript for 11/1/20 READ John 19:15b-30 When Jesus received the sour wine, he said “it is finished.” Then bowing his head, he gave up his spirit. Can you see this moment of death for the Son of God, Son of Man? And here he is, dying, innocent. Is this just a tragic … Continue reading

General Rules of a Sermon – Jean Claude
Jean Claude was a mid-17th Century Protestant preacher in Nimes, France. Charles Simeon lists his General Rules of a Sermon. If you’re a preacher you will hopefully enjoy the reminders. 1) Should be Clearly and Purely Explaining the Text – “it is impossible to edify them unless you are clear” 2) Give the Entire sense … Continue reading
When A Legend Dies
So, I’m not writing this for anyone really but me. When a Legend Dies, Martin Luther King Jr, John and Robert Kennedy, James Dean, Elvis Presley all come to mind. When a Legend dies, it shakes the world. Their death isn’t worse than that of a “regular person” but the reach, the connections, the effect … Continue reading
Rest
Sunday I preached from Revelation 6:9-11 on the “Souls under the Altar” … they asked “how long Lord?” And God didn’t really give the answer they were looking for but he said … “rest a little while longer.” So … I included this poem to end my message REST I with Him He with me, … Continue reading
I Seek the Profit
Just a short word – Paul says in Philippians 4:16-17(CSB) “…you sent gifts for my need several times. 17 Not that I seek the gift But I seek the profit that is increasing to your account” Seems like I remember someone saying that we should not lay up treasures on earth, but lay up treasures in our … Continue reading
